2 Frustrations & Hot Or Not

Ok, so let's divide this post into two sections:

2 Frustrations:

1) Yesterday I went to Safeway to pick up my regular brand of razors (Shick), but when I got there, they had none left. And because of that, I had to buy another brand... "Gillette" is what I bought, and I just used them... They're awful!!! Blades, literally.

2) The banner/heading for my three blogs are fucked! Because the template has undergone a slight redesign pertaining to the size of the banner, my custom made picture (with the ocean, the Zonda and the Trailer Park Boys) is too big; evidently, it cuts the bottom of the picture off. Bastards. Now I'm going to have to take the time to make a new banner.

Hot Or Not:

You may recall: a while back I entered my photo onto HotorNot.com and with 100 votes collected, I had an average of 7.6. Well, a couple of weeks back I decided to upload a better picture of myself and by the time I had just 40 votes, I had an average of 8.6. And now with some 190 votes, I've got an average of 7.5.

Anyhow, just yesterday I decided to sign up (because it was free) for their "Meet Me" application. Frankly, it's more or a less of a free online-dating system where once you finding someone you think is attractive, you click "yes, I would like to meet him/her".

Within the first day, a girl living in Vancouver named "Jessica" clicked "yes" to me. After reviewing her profile and pictures (she's cute), I eagerly clicked the option saying that I'd like to meet her too.

We have yet to speak just yet, but naturally, when we do it'll be online. Maybe from there it'll evolve. I dunno, we'll see.

Meanwhile, I've clicked "yes" to a number of other girls around British Columbia and eagerly await to see if they're interested in chatting. Even if all they want to be is a "friend" to talk to... I'm up for that.

Facebook Quiz

I was just screwing around on Facebook with some of the gazillion quizzes one can take, and took one quiz called "Which animal are you most like?"

I answered the set of questions, to which the end result was me apparently being most like a horse. I know that it already sounds completely idiotic, but read on...

Yeah, well, it included a small paragraph regarding the end result - essentially, telling me my overall personality profile. Here's what I said:

Everyone likes you! You like most everyone, though you don't trust everyone. You're strong, noble, loyal, sweet, and calm. Because you're such a naturally calm person, people would be surprised by your depth of feeling and thought. Though socializing isn't everything to you, you talk to people easily, and enjoy the time you spend with them. You're pretty much comfortable wherever you are. You probably aren't the initiator of a relationship, but you are its balance.

Now, the only reason I decided to post this was because I couldn't believe how true it is. Honestly, it's got my personality in a nutshell. I'm struck dumb by it's accuracy.

Anyways, I admit that I feel slightly obtuse posting these somewhat self-centered posts as of late.

I'd better get back to writing my next automotive article...

She Was Cute!

Yeah, so...I just came back from my "daily walk" and along the way I encountered one of those "I know you're looking at me because you think I'm good looking" things. You know, when you encounter a member of the opposite sex and it's clearly evident that one of the two likes the other. In some cases, it's even a two-way street. And I believe what happened to me some 15 minutes ago was indeed a two-way street.

As I zip around my regular walking routine - around the corner I turn every day - I notice there is this girl walking towards me. And at this point we're quite far away from each other; far away that neither of us can see each other's face. As we get closer and closer to each other, I notice she puts on some good 'ol eye contact. Lots, in fact. And not eye contact simply because we're passing each other, oh no, the type of eye contact that can only suggest an attraction.

And now, oh-so close to each other, I can in fact see what she looks like, and let me tell you: cute!! And her red toque (that's Canadian slang - if you haven't a clue as to what that is, type it in Google) with her fashionable winter clothing further accentuated her cuteness.

And now is the time. We're finally passing each other - trying our best not to make eye contact with each other. Quick look -- look away -- The discomfort at this particular moment builds and I, for whatever reason, feel as If I'm going to trip. I feel oh-so nervous.

And then it's over, we have eventually passed each other. Though the experience only lasted a minute or so, it felt like an eternity. Shortly thereafter, all I can think is: "thank God the uncomfortableness has ceased", but as I head onto the next block, all I can do is crack a slight smile and think: "doh! Why the hell was I feeling so uncomfortable about the whole situation? I'd love to have a girlfriend that looks like that".

I obviously haven't a clue whether she was thinking about this short encounter in the same manor in the way I was, but I'm pretty damn sure she was just as uncomfortable as I was.

So yeah... Who ever thought I could write a post about about a minute encounter with a cute girl on the street? Ridiculous, isn't it?

And that all being said, I'd like to talk about the subject of my shyness pertaining to girls that I am attracted to. I'm not very good at talking to girls I'm attracted to. Not the least bit... Or at least the first time the two of us speak, or encounter each other. I always seem to freeze up. Not in the sense that I end up saying stupid things, but more in the sense that I don't know what to say. I try my best to keep it together, but sometimes, I have the feeling I might come off a little strange as a result. I also have a great tendency to start laughing for no apparent reason when around a girl I like.

"What's funny?"

"Umm, nothing. I was just thinking about something else".

And then they either think you're making fun of something they said (and let's hope she was telling a joke, other wise...) and/or that you weren't even listening to her.

Oh I how I hate that. I'm way too shy for my own good. Additionally, I suppose I lack a bit of confidence in the "talking to women" department.

And that folks, is just another day in Bruce's life.

A Week's Meal

Over the course of any given week, this is what I usually consume:

  • 2 and a half Kraft Delissio frozen pizza's
  • 9 355ml glasses of partly skimmed 1% milk
  • 10 355ml glasses of water (excluding the dozens of ice cubes I suck on)
  • A half block of "old" style cheese
  • A bag of black seedless grapes
  • Four bakery-style chocolate cookies from Safeway
  • 2 litres of diet pop (Coke/7up/Ginger Ale)

And that'll be all folks...

Personality Profile

Took this interesting "personality profile" on Facebook this past Saturday and thought I'd share the results:

After reviewing the test, I believe that it's fair to say that much of it is spot on. That being said, I'd like to touch on two particular categories: "Openness" and "Conscientiousness".

Regarding the "Openness": I couldn't agree more. As the category description explains, the ability to be "open" means a wide variety of things. First and foremost, it can reveal how limited one's interests are. As is obvious in this particular case, my interests are extremely varied; I definitely enjoy a number entirely different things - from all types of music, to all types of activities.

Another aspect to openness is your ability to express your opinions on this and that. And it's true, I am not afraid to express my opinions, nor dislikes or likes for any particular thing. If I like something, I bloody well tell someone and stand my ground; same goes for something I dislike, naturally.

And though it may sound overtly arrogant to agree with such, I fully do believe that I have an imagination which is both vivid and creative.

Nor is there much to refute regarding the "Conscientiousness" rating of my profile. There's no qualm about it, I am most certainly a perfectionist. I have a very strict set of rules for myself which I always follow. A number of ritual-likes activities which very much borderline on obsession. Everything I do is carefully planned to the best of my ability, so it goes without saying that I am extremely angered when my routine, or plan is not carried out in full. I will not - cannot - carry out things half arsed for the sake of quick completion.

But even then, I am rarely satisfied with most things I do; always thinking that I could have done them better. And let me tell you, it's clearly evident when I write a car article for both my automotive blog and AutoSavant.net. I can honestly say that I have never written an article I was 100% satisfied with. I'll re-read them and think: "my God, what the hell was I thinking? Not only did I write about a terrible subject, but my writing was absolutely atrocious".

From a positive point of view, being a perfectionist means you are most always organized in ways which most aren't. You anticipate problems and carefully plan the solution out so that you can either fix them once they arise, or avoid them entirely.

The downside to all of this is that people can view you in a negative light which pertains to being dull, boring and ultimately, not-fun. Additionally, people think that you are incapable of being spontaneous... But you can't blame 'em. There is indeed a great deal of truth in that.

The only part of this test that I somewhat disagree with is that pertaining to "Extraversion". I would agree that I am both energetic and active as well as one who enjoys (certain) social occasions, but am not overly fond of talking to large groups of people. And actually, to be honest, I pretty much despise things like that.

My Name: "Bruce"

Wanting to stray away from my usual postings and talk about something that is not only entirely a new subject to myself, but ultimately interesting, I came up with the idea to write a post about my given name.

So then, how shall we start? Well, how about taking a look at the history of Bruce as a name:

Pronounced:
Brooce/Broose

History:
The English language name Bruce arrived in Scotland with the Normans, from the place name Brix of the Manche département in Normandy, France, meaning "the willowlands". Initially promulgated via the descendants of King Robert the Bruce of Scotland (1274-1329,it has been a Scottish surname since medieval times; it is now a common given name.

The variant Lebrix and Le Brix are
French variations of the surname.

Courtesy of
Wikipedia.org, naturally.

Why I Was Named "Bruce"?
According to my father (who has "Bruce" as a middle name), my mother was absolutely determined for me to be named such. The action that fueled the determination? I'm afraid I haven't a clue.

Alternate Surname Spellings:
BRUYS, BRUSE, DE BRUYS

Definition:
From Bruy or Bruys, a place in Normandy where the family originated, 2) Fom the Old French meaning "brushwood thicket."

Courtesy of
genealogy.about.com

Origins:
Scottish, Celtic, Old French & English

Name Meaning:
"Woods", "Thicket", "Thick Brush"

Peak Popularity:
"Bruce" is a name which was endured great popularity through both the 40's and 50's, but has steadily dropped off the the popularity list. As a result, it is most certainly a name you're likely to come across very often.

What Others Think of the Name "Bruce"?
As it's popularity has since long died, "Bruce" is definitely not a name which is liked by many. On Facebook, my name was rated with a hotness level of just 27% (absolutely terrible), meanwhile some 2700 voters on
babynames.com have rated it with an average of 3 out of 5. In short, "Bruce" is not a name which others view as being sexy or cool.

Pop Culture:

Musicians:
Bruce Dickinson (lead singer of Iron Maiden); Bruce Springsteen

Actors:
Bruce Campbell; Bruce Greenwood; Bruce Forsyth; Bruce Willis; Bruce Lee; Bruce McCulloch

Fictional Characters:
Bruce Banner (alter ego of the Incredible Hulk); Bruce Wayne (the alter ego of Batman)

Locations:
Bruce, Australian Capital Territory, a suburb of Canberra
Bruce, Mississippi, U.S.
Bruce, Wisconsin, U.S.
Bruce County, Ontario, Canada
Bruce Crossing, Michigan, U.S.
Bruce Trail, a trail in Ontario, Canada
Division of Bruce, Victoria, Australia

Miscellanea:
Bruce (crater), in the Moon
A type of anchor

All Courtesy yet again of
Wikipedia.org

Personal Thoughts:

Frankly, I always thought my name was pretty cool because of it's rarity. However, It would my appear that assumptions regarding such are completely incorrect. It's lack of popularity means that it's a name which isn't desirable to most.

Oh well. What can you do? At least Bruce Willis is kick ass. On the other hand, Willis' real given-name is actually "Walter"...

Early Enough?

You may or may not recall, but earlier last week, I wrote post in regards to my rather odd sleep habbits. Those being: hitting the sack at 7:30 pm to 8:00 pm and waking up anywhere from 4:00 am to 5:00 am

Well, over the last week or so my waking-up patterns have changed in that I am starting to get up even earlier! For instance, this morning I woke up at 3:30, while yesterday I woke to the clock reading 3:45. That means that on average I'm up for sixteen hours a day.

And once I'm up, there's little point in trying to going back to sleep.

My Worry Factor

Your Worry Factor is 63%

The amount you worry is definitely borderline unhealthy.
Even when things are going well, you find yourself fixating on the negatives.
Try to remember the times you've been able to let your worries go.
If you can do that again, you'll be much happier!

I admit it, it's all true. Especially that part about even when things are good for myself, I fixate on the negatives.

Thanks to my problematic years as a youth, I am an individual who tends to focus on the possible negatives of most any good situation. But then that's not surprising considering I've seen so many supposedly good things turn into nightmares within the slighest of time. Of course, thus also means that I'm leery of most everything I do.

Is it a negative? Yeah, in a way I guess it is. On the other hand, it keeps you on your toes; planning and organizing things that most people wouldn't even care to. I honestly do believe that it gives you a slight advantage in life.

Love 'Em!

Man, Porcupine Tree is unquestionably the best band I've heard since discovering Rush. I just cannot believe that it took me so long to find 'em.

Steve Wilson - the leader singer and song writer - is an absolute genuis.

And they sure as hell put on a great live show:

*shock* I think I love them as much as Rush... *Shock*

Weather/Facebook/God Knows

Well, here we are in mid November and I'm glad to report that the weather's holding up pretty well. Yesterday's weather was pretty apocalyptic all-around, it was slightly wet, extremely cold and horribly dark. Today though, it seems as if the weather gods have given us Vancouver residents an easier time. As I write this, the skies are blue and the sun is well controlled, although it is pretty cold. Just 2°C to be exact.

But it's not raining, and that's enough for me. And thankfully, it looks as if this weather - sunny with 5 & 6°C temperatures - will hold up until Saturday when it's expected to be yet again apocalyptic. Could be a lot worse though...

In any event, I have to say - and it's completely irrelevant to the above - that I am most probably addicted to Facebook. It's little wonder why people can't get any school work done when you've got a site like Facebook which is as addictive as a bloody drug. The fact that you have your own "little space" where you customize most everything and are able to talk to friends and family makes it completely irresistible.

Oh, and in case you wondering what the "God Knows" part of the title is referring to: it's referring to nothing.

Colour Passion

Your Passion is Gray

Your sexual attitude is best described as apathetic.
Often joking that you're asexual, you can go months without getting any.
For you, great sex does not make or break a relationship.
If it happens, it's just the icing on the cake.

Pet Peeve #1

I don't think it's any surprise that most everyone in the world has at least one "pet peeve". You know, that one thing that drives you absolutely insane; that thing which makes you want to go out on a major killing spree to kill those who "do" this particular thing you dislike?

Some folks aren't as bad as others, but I'm one of those individuals who has at least 100 different pet peeves. I'm both easily irritated and quick to anger by the simplest of things. Someone cuts in on me in line? Die! Someone walking cuts out in front out me and then starts walking slowly? Die! Ignorant individuals at the cash register? Die! Poseurs in Starbucks? Die! The BMW E39 5 series doesn't look any good anymore because it's dated? Die!

I could think of at least a thousand more things which annoy the hell out of me, but there's nothing, and I mean nothing that pisses me off more than sexist assholes.

Being a member on a number of subject varied, male dominate websites and forums, I often come across such sexist attitude - even from friends - which makes me want to strangle them with piano wire.

Some forums are worse than others, but no matter how much or how little, I really get wired up seeing sexist comments towards women. Fuck, I hate it.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm as guilty as anyone in participating in a slightly sexiest joke, but I believe nothing of what I say and never take it too far nor discuss it with others on an Internet forum.

Some of the comments I commonly come across are: "those bitches"; "those b's"; "dishwasher units" and a whole other host of completely low-class, ignorant, trailer trash comments. Comments which degrade females to the point of making it sounds as if women are beneath men; or in other words, dogs. And you wouldn't believe how many groups there are on Facebook promoting sexist behavior; clubs with names like "a woman's place is in the kitchen", or "bitch, shut up". And there are people in these groups who have girlfriends/wife's... That just blows my fucking mind.

I cannot think of anything more that shows great insecurity, and low-form. I do my best not to read into these comments too much, but sometimes it's just beyond belief. And though I realize that we aren't living in the 1940's and thus probably more accepting of females than we ever were before, don't you dare tell me that it doesn't still exist, because it bloody well does.

Now, I think it's fair to say that there is a great deal more of sexist remarks towards women than there are men, but that's not there isn't sexism towards men. Oh no, while there is indeed less than discrimination towards men than women, it's still a growing problem both ways. But evidently, being a male, sexist comments towards females bothers me more than those aimed towards men. Final verdict?
Say no to sexism.

My Hair

Had you failed to notice, hair fashion amongst men is becomingly ever increasingly popular these days. And thus is probably a result of this new "metrosexual" fad that's getting men to extensively care about their appearance. Not to say that they haven't before, but it's much more extreme these days than it once was.

And though I've stated on a number of occasion that I'm not a metrosexual fad follower, I've been lying If I said my appearance wasn't important to me; especially that which relates to my hair.

I admit it, I'm extremely vain when it comes to my hair. I love my hair and though I don't show it, cherish it like a family member. I probably spend much more time looking in the mirror than I probably should, too, but oh well.

In any event, I visited the barber earlier today and got me not only hair cut, but a new hair style. Well sort of, it's an evolution of my already exsisting style. But, I'm not posting a picture. No, not just yet.

The only hint I'll give at this moment was that it was inspired a male celebrity. Oohh...

Yaaa!!! It's Mine!

As I said yesterday, I was going to set out to purchase my first Porcupine Tree album this Saturday.

And here it is - on top of my MVI-version of Rush's "Snakes & Arrows":

Though finding a copy of the album didn't come without it's fair share of problems. I had to go to three stores to find the bloody thing; a "FutureShop", a "Best Buy" and eventually, an "HMV". The first two once had them in stock, but had no PT albums left in the stock. Thankfully, the HMV that I visited some 2 hours ago had just one copy left. Yup, just one.

It's rockin'!

EDIT: I forgot to mention that when I bought the album, the girl at the cash register undoubtedly liked me. Her nervous reactions and deep stare into my eyes were a clear give away. It was actually quite uncomfortable for the two of us... Good looking girl though!

Porcupine Tree!

For the longest of time, I had heard about this English "Progressive/Experiemental" Rock band called "Porcupine Tree" which a great deal of Rush fans liked. A band that had music that was so good it just had to be heard.

Well, I been listening to them for the last couple of days on both IMEEM.com and YouTube, and uhh....they're AWESOME. Best music I've heard since discovering Rush. One song, and I was bloody hooked; absolute no need to get "used to them".

Their new album - "A Fear of A Blank Planet" - is just biblical, while their 2002 album "Absentia" is just beyond belief. The music stucture is just amazing. The chorus' are mind blowingly good.

Can you guess what tomorrow's CD purchase is going be?

Listen to "Trains" from their "Absentia" album below:

Opening A Lamborghini Dealer

How would you promote the opening of a new Lamborghini dealer in Calabasas, California?

Well, the dealer had the idea of inviting a ton of Hollywood stars; among them being a few of the cast members from the hit television show "Heroes". Cast members who showed up were Greg Grunberg ("Matt Parkman"), Milo Ventimiglia ("Peter Petrelli"), Kristen Bell ("Elle") and of course, Hayden Panettiere ("Claire Bennett").

Ms. Panettiere was looking rather fantastic on this particular night. Like the hair, love the outfit.

Cousin in Vancouver

Wow.

This morning I logged onto Facebook to find a private message in my Inbox from a cousin, a cousin that I didn't even remember I had!

The last time I would have seen this particular cousin would have been when I was about 5 years old at my Mother's sister's wedding; she's my Mother's sister's kid. How cool is that?

Her name is Kirstin, she's studying for a Masters in Environmental Toxicology and lives in Vancouver! Stranger still, we even share a few favourite musicians - Loreena McKennitt, Cat Stevens and Gordon Lightfoot.

Here she is:

But what's with the sudden contact after all of these years? Well, yeah, I wondered that too. As my Mother - her aunt - is on her buddy list I can only assume that after I ignored my Mothers request to accept her as a friend, she contacted Kirstin.

In any event, it's cool to have contact with her.

P.S. - Still debating whether I should accept my Mother's request.

Not Sleep Deprived

They - studies, that is - say that about 85% of people do not get the recommended amount of sleep per night. Thankfully, I'm not part of that majority.

I have sleeping habits which would make most people blow a circuit even thinking about; the same people who like to crash until 12 or 1 PM and then awake up at 7, maybe 8 am.

Me though? Oh hell no, I'm a morning person through and through. The funnest time of day for myself is undoubtedly the morning when I not only the feel most alert, but the most creative. Before the Daylight Saving Time struck Vancouver back in late October, I was hitting the sack at 8:30pm. And ever since DST changed the clock I've been hitting the sack at 7:30pm and waking up anywhere from 4:00-5:00am.

The upside is that in the morning I have awareness like few others, the downside is that by the time 6:30pm rolls around I start to get a little jaded.

I feel damn good though, and haven't any intention of changing my sleep pattern any time soon.

My Christmas Music

As I'm sure you're aware, they're are many who like to get into the Christmas spirit by listening to Christmas music; you know, such songs as "Deck the Halls", "Frosty the Snow Man", "The Twelve Days of Christmas", etc.

Not me though (no surprise, eh), I've always hated Christmas music. Though that's not to say that I haven't got my own type of Christmas music. For the last couple of years my Christmas spirit has always been fuelled by folks singers. They are my alternative to Christmas music, and around this time every year, I'm always listening to our great Canadian folk legends like Gordon Lightfoot and Valdy.

The two have such easy listening, but emotional inspired tunes. Lightfoot's a "Ballad of Yarmouth Castle" and "Pride of Man" are just brilliant, while Valdy's "Weather'd Hands" gives me real feel for Fisher men in Nova Scotia.
Whatever the two write about, it's always inspirational.

Elisha's Hair Style

To the left of this text, is a picture of Elisha Cuthbert taken on the 10th of November. And as is obvious, Elisha is looking beautiful. Although, actually, I think she's looking even better here than she usually does, and that's saying something.

Frankly, I think it largely has to do with her new hair style. Over the last some two years, Elisha has been fiddling with her hair to no-end, and the result has been a string of completely different styles. And though she's had short hair before, I think is the perfect iteration. It's not only sexy, but gives her a rather sophisticated look.

Remembrance Day

Allow for me to quote what I said on GermanCarZone:

It is important for us to remember those who have put their lifes on the line for those of us which have never served. Shall their efforts never be forgotten. And on that subject, I am proud to say that my Grandpa is one of the many who served in WW2.

So many terrible things have already happened, but it's unfortunately never going to stop

And now allow me to add: I think the Iraq war is a complete farce.

See this link

Those men put their lives on the line for an unjust cause; for an oil patch and it really angers me. Bush doesn't give a flying fuck about any of those who were injured.

More Music!

Being one who has a great deal of affection for music and is ultimately obssessed with it, I feel it nessecary to pick up new CD every two or so weeks. No qualms, I love music to no-end. So, growing my already exsisting collection is always a top piorioty for me. And in passing by "Future Shop" earlier today, I of course could not resist going in to pick up some new stuff.

I came out of there with two items:

Firstly: Blue Rodeo's 1995 album,
"Lost Together". Having yet to own any such recordings from BR and having always had a great appreciation for them, I thought this would be the time to start a collection in respect to this great Canadian band. Should you not already know - Blue Rodeo's music is essentially Country Rock. Well... I suppose that's the best description. They have a lot of music which is indeed Country Rock, but they have a great deal of music which fits into a genre of it's own.

In any event, I am more than glad that I finally picked up some Blue Rodeo stuff. Their music is undoubtedly top-notch. Most of their songs have an incredibly strange musical arrangement; the changes which they bring are unpredictable and exciting. The vocals are sweet, the guitars are imposing, the drums are superb and the bass guitar, is oh-so awesome. And I mean really awesome. Some of the best I've heard in a long while to be frank (excluding Rush that is...).

Secondly, I picked up "The Barenaked Ladies" recently released (on the 6th) concert DVD, "
Talk to the Hand: Live in Michigan". Got the opportunity to watch a bit of the DVD earlier today and naturally, it's awesome. The performance is spectacular - the guitars sound downright godly - and the boys are just hilarious. Honestly, this concert is as much as a comedy showcase as it is a music concert. In the short piece I watched, they had me both bursting with laughter and signing along to favourite tunes such as "If I had $1,000,000" and "Be My Yoko Ono"; the latter of which is performed acoustically with the addition of an accordion. And yes, it truly does sound great!

All in all, two purchases which I am very happy with!

And on a side-note - albeit related to my music affection - I ordered this white, Rush "Grace Under Pressure" Tour T-Shirt earlier last week. Should arrive on Tuesday. Can't wait!

Blogthings Quiz

Your Dominant Intelligence is Linguistic Intelligence

You are excellent with words and language. You explain yourself well.
An elegant speaker, you can converse well with anyone on the fly.
You are also good at remembering information and convicing someone of your point of view.
A master of creative phrasing and unique words, you enjoy expanding your vocabulary.
You would make a fantastic poet, journalist, writer, teacher, lawyer, politician, or translator.

Out of the Blue

As I recently mentioned, I signed up with Facebook just a few weeks ago. Ahh yes, and the results were quite spectacular; not only did I get to reunite with many of my old friends, but I was even able to add a few of my GermanCarZone buddies. It really is a great site, but they're are some downsides - such as people who you don't want to talk (nor want to find) you, and then asking for a friend's invitation.

That happened to me a couple of nights ago. The person you ask? My mother.

Had you failed to notice, I've never brought up the subject of my mother. Never ever. The reason being because I haven't spoken to her since 2001 or 2002 and quite honestly, hadn't the intention to ever again.

To keep it short - my Mother bailed on me and my Father many times when I was just a wee-lad, and then left us some time in late '97 and then reunited with us back in '99 and then left us again. So, suffice to say, I don't think too highly of my Mother at all. And that's just a few of the terrors that once were!

Truth is, over the last 5-6 years she has only popped into my mind about three times. And yes, I'm serious. Her making contact after all of these years actually makes me uneasy. Though she lived with us through my childhood, I can honestly say that I do not know her as an individual. We don't have anything in common, let alone the son and Mother bondage which is naturally expected of most normal families. And I'm not being dramatic either. She left a mark upon me and my Father which needs little reminder.

Undoubtedly, my life hasn't been the most sorted thing over the last several years, but the last thing I needed was a reminder of the old days. Uggh... And just when I was getting my life back on track.

I have yet to accept her request...

"What's Your Funky Inner Hair Color"

In addition to yesterday's post, I just took this somewhat ridculous test called "What's Your Funky Inner Hair Color?". My results you ask?
Your Hair Should Be Orange

Expressive, deep, and one of a kind.
You pull off "weird" well - hardly anyone notices.

I Love Dyed Hair

I know I've mentioned it before, but I just feel the urge to show my further appreciation for Girls who dye their hair radical colours. Having seen many more Women with coloured streaked hair since my last post about the subject, I have come to the conclusion that this trend is the shit (excuse the ghetto slang). This has got to be one of the biggest female trends out there, and I absolutely love it.

Now, don't get me wrong - I realize that some Girls make a complete hash out of dyed hair. Sometimes it can look so awful you wish to stab a pair of scissors in your eyes... But when it's done right, it can truly be something wonderful.

As for the colour: well, I like most everything, except for blue. Blue can be alright in small doses, but an entire head dyed with blue colouring? Ohyyy..

Anyways, I'll pulled up a few examples (off Google) of what I like:

These are the more conventional examples (partially streaked).

Below are two which are evidently insane; much less subtle than the above, but you know, I still think they look great.

And now to answer the question you're most likely wanting an answer to: man, what the hell are you thinking?

Actually, I find the whole fascination with it as interesting as you probably do. Why does someone like myself - conservative, not flashy, quiet - happen to have an affection for girls with crazy coloured hair? Well, I guess it's because It not only symbolizes a sense of independence (rebellion too, I suppose), but confidence, as well as character. Any girl who is daring enough to dye her hair completely green has got to be an interesting person. And as far as I'm concerned, that's sexy.

Mind you, that doesn't mean that I'm not interested in girls with naturally coloured hair - oh of course not. I love naturally coloured hair, but just have a great deal of affection for crazy coloured hair too.

If I Can't Walk & Talk, I'm Fucked

Please take note: I thank Mike Clattenburg and the Trailer Park Boys crew for inspiration of what comes from what is arguably the greatest TPB episode ever: "If I can't Smoke & Swear, I'm Fucked".

Anyhoo, after a some three month hiatus from wearing proper shoes, I finally took the leap and purchased a new pair this past Sunday. Here's a picture:

They're made by WindRiver and boast the oh-so-original name of "Quad Comfort". They're damn good shoes though. As I'm more of a classical and conservative person, this style of shoe is exactly what I look for. I love the fact that they have an old school allure to them, and not that new age shiny bullshit look. And may I just take the time to relate that last comment to Ferrari (shiny rubbish) versus Porsche (conservative, tasteful) - give me the Porsche any day.

There is however, one problem with them thus far. And that happens to be the fact that they have not entirely broken in and are ripping my heals to shreds. Uggh... They're starting to break in now, but I've been walking around like a cripple - with the shoes on, of course - for the last three days.

In any event, I'm glad that I finally found a pair of shoes that I not only like, but actually fit! Purchasing a pair of new shoes has always been a terrible experience for me. The first reason being because even though my shoe size maybe 10 1/2, the width of my feet is just insane. Sure, they maybe the right length, but you wouldn't believe how many shoes I've rejected because of the width. The second reason being because of the absurd styles of footwear they peddle off these days. You know those trendy shoes which are extremely pointy and look more fitting on an Elf than a human being? Yeah, well... I hate those things.

Getting Drunk

After further contact with even more Elementary School friends since my last post, I have come to one conclusion: people love to get drunk. Thus is certainly not new news to anyone, but it's just surprising to see some of my friends when they are drunk as hell. And in my mind, it always leads back to the emblematic thoughts about my drinking, or lack thereof.

In case you didn't already know, let me put this in the simplest of terms. I don't drink and have never been drunk. And never means never. I haven't a clue as to what it's like to be drunk. Unbelievable, eh? Especially at my age; the age when people are supposed to be out there getting hammered with their friends.

The only slight clue as to what it's like, is what my Father tells me. He just says you "feel loose" accumulating what is best described as "not giving a shit about anything". *I laughed*

It's weird you know. I've always strayed away from Alcohol as I've never trusted it's side effects on the body. I really dislike the fact that one's reactions are
diluted by a substance, nor do I like that an entire night can be forgotten by heavy drinking. I like to be in control of myself 100% of the time.

Nevertheless, I'd be lying If I said I haven't thought about trying an alcoholic beverage once or twice. In fact, I imagine I'll take the leap in the next couple of months. One thing's for sure though, when I do it, I'll do it alone. I'd like to feel the side effects from my point of view with no one around.

If there's any upside to not drinking, it's probably peoples reactions to the fact that you don't drink. When you tell someone that you don't drink, they are often left stuttering, curious, wondering what could possibly be wrong. "Oh my God, is he an alcoholic?" People overtly act like you're from space - which manages to be both sad and hilarious at the same time. When you tell people you haven't been drunk... their eyes pop out and their head unscrews.
"what could be the reason? Is is because his parent's were alcoholics?"

The best way I can explain this is like this: Often do teenagers like to rebell against parents and obviously, drinking happens to be a common way in which most teenagers rebell against their parents at a young age. But you see, my parents never told me "do this, don't do that". Nah, so I hadn't any reason to rebell by sneaking off and drinking with friends.

Ahh well, what can you do? When I do eventually get drunk, I'll be sure to post my initial reactions.

In the meantime, if anyone has any comments on what it's like "the first time", please do leave a comment.

Reunited W/ Old Friends

Randomly searching through Facebook this past Friday night - which I recently joined by the way - I decided to type in a few of my Elementary School friends' names, and what do you know, I found a ton of them. Some of these friends are ones which I have not had contact with for nearly a decade! These are individuals I haven't seen, nor spoken to into in such a long time (many which I previously spoke of here), it's almost unbelievable.

Naturally, I requested to be added as a "friend" (leaving a short note), and thus far 13 or so have accepted. It really is quite amazing you know. Actually, the whole thing is quite emotional for myself, especially as most of them are my deepest friends which I lost contact with long ago. So many memories, so many good times. And honestly, I never thought I'd speak to any of them ever again.

And you know how they say "people never really change"? In terms of actual personality, it's probably true, but in terms of the way they look, that cliche couldn't be anymore wrong. Having not seen these people for what seems like an eternity, it's shocking to see what they look like; how they've aged, how different they look. Do take note that I remember most them as how they looked when they were 10, or 11 years old.

Turns out, Colin (who I previously spoke of being a pot smoker through out junior high), is traveling Europe and is currently in Amsterdam. Lol...No suprise there. Also got the chance to reunite with other childhood friends such as Patrick, Ian, Nick, Rory, Michael and even the best friend I ever had, Alex Thompson. Had the chance to speak with Alex last night and he was undoubtedly excited to speak with me again. He said that should I come to Calgary (or vice versa for him) any time soon, we should get together. Tis been a fascinating day.

And because I honestly don't think any of them would mind, I thought I'd post a picture of each friend I've reunited with over the last couple of days.

Built Muscle

I was looking in the mirror earlier this morning and feeling goofy, randomly decided to pull off an Arnold Schwarzenegger pose. And much to my surprise, I noticed a great deal of muscle which has built on the upper half of the arm. What's surprising about it is the way I achieved this slight build in arm muscle.

Actually, it's downright embarrassing. And no, it's not because I masturbate 20 times a day you deviant mind. It is however, a result of my love to air drum. Truth be told, I am a extreme air drummer and even have an old pair of drum sticks which I often bat around. You see, I'd love to take up drumming, but as I currently live in a environment which restricts it, I have to full-fill my needs in other ways. Thus of course means when I'm listening to music, particularly rock, I drum along. And considering I follow drumming quite closely, I can even replicate a great deal of certain songs. I just love to air drum along to Rush instrumentals such as "YYZ" and the "Main Monkey Business".

I know, I know... it's dorky and pathetic isn't it? Oh well, I'm more than sure I'm not the only one who does such. At least I'm man enough to admit it <<>

P.S. - This post is not a joke.

Favourite Quotes

Here are some of my favourite quotes for you to enjoy:

"I’m a bit of a worrier, to an extreme. I’ll crack a joke, then worry if I’ve offended someone—even when they’re laughing. I have a guilt complex, always worrying." - Sophia Bush

"Those who say they fear nothing, have no imagination" - Neil Peart

"I've never been afraid of death or the concept of death." - Alex Lifeson
