Movies & Television This Week

Online television that is...

So yeah, I watched the 3rd episode of the 2nd of Heroes this past Monday and am a little worried at where the show is going. The once cool and amazing coincidences which fuelled the first season are almost non-existent, and already three episodes in, very little has happened. In other the words, the show is starting to a drag it's weight. Additionally, having Claire and Peter fall into relationships means the show could head down the path of mindless teenage drama (see "The O.C.")

Yeah... I dunno. I remember when Buffy the Vampire Slayer was an excellent show, but as they piled the love drama on, the show took a fall. Rather than being about what it's title suggested, it was nothing more than a big love story.

Still, I eagerly wait for the next episode. Hopefully it's a bit more, uhh, exciting.

Other than my weekly dose of Heroes, I watched the pilot episode of "The Bionic Woman" last night. Isn't wasn't exactly bad, but wasn't all that great. Considering it's the pilot though, I plan on watching a few more episodes before I decide whether it's rubbish or not. Quite frankly, the only solid conclusion I've come to at the moment is that The Bionic Woman herself (played by Michelle Ryan) is cute (left).

On the movie front, I watched "Underworld" last night. I've seen it several times before - I own it - but could only think two things when watching it. Firstly, this is a great action movie and secondly, how the hell was the second movie so awful? Oh it's true, I thought the first movie was great and I'm not just saying that because Kate Beckinsale was in it. I honestly believe that it is a great film; both well directed and well-casted as well as boasting a great selection of characters and great animation/graphics. But of course, having Kate in Underworld adds a certain degree of allure to the film. First and foremost because she's kick ass, but also because she's undeniably sexy. Not to mention, Kate is a great actress. She's well spoken, and most definitely believable.

Also watched a film called "Big Nothing" just recently. Staring David Schwimmer, Simon Pegg and Natascha McElhone
it's a film about:

Charlie is an ex-teacher turned reluctant call center employee who gets fired on the first day. Distraught on being unable to provide for his daughter Emily and cop wife, Penelope, he is suddenly contacted by Gus, an aspiring scam artist who presents Charlie with a seemingly snag-free plan to make some cash: Blackmail Reverend Smalls a man of the cloth, who's frequently turned up in the company database of visitors to illegal porn-sites. Gus plans on extorting Reverend Smalls, with the intention of publicly exposing his secret shame, should he refuse, with this scandal potentially destroying the man's career. Normally cautious Charlie, is keen on participating in this scam, confident that with this money maker he'll garner from the deal and will finally help turn things around for him and his family.

Thanks to IMDB.com

It's an excellent film and though it sounds extremely serious, It's more of a black comedy than a gritty crime drama. Interestingly enough, though everyone in the movie has an American accent and supposedly living in Kansas, the movie was actually filmed on the Isle of Man.
